In many contemporary diplomatic configurations, the apparent "object" of negotiation does not exhaust the conflict. Diplomatic impasses often arise because negotiations operate predominantly on one level, while the conflict continues to act on other levels: socio-affective and symbolic-cultural. Treating these dimensions as "secondary" is not only ethically problematic; it is analytically inaccurate.

Die Nachhaltigkeitsforschung braucht gut qualifizierten wissenschaftlichen Nachwuchs, der in der Lage ist, zu Lösungen von komplexen gesellschaftlichen Herausforderungen in unseren Städten und Regionen auch unter Berücksichtigung neuer Technologien beizutragen. Aus diesem Grund fördert das Bundesministerium für Forschung, Technologie und Raumfahrt (BMFTR) sozial-ökologische Nachwuchsgruppen, die einen Beitrag zur Hightech-Agenda Deutschland leisten. Die diesjährige Einreichfrist wurde um sechs Monate verschoben. Skizzen können dementsprechend bis zum 30. Oktober 2026 eingereicht werden.

How can transdisciplinary research move from conceptual debate to real societal impact? This collection invites contributions that explore how collaboration across disciplines, sectors, and knowledge systems fosters transformative change. We welcome papers that critically reflect on the practices, methods, and politics of doing transdisciplinary research—its promises, challenges, and implications for knowledge co-production and societal transformation.

The University of Zurich Fellowship in Crisis Competence is a short-term research opportunity at the Universi-ty of Zurich. The Fellowship is part of the transdisciplinary project Agora – Urban Crisis Competence, co-lead by the City of Zurich and the Center for Crisis Competence at the University of Zurich and financed by the Merca-tor Foundation Switzerland. The Agora is a platform for dialogue between researchers and senior staff of the City of Zurich with the goal to improve the crisis competencies of the city based on current research and to inspire novel research questions.
